Bailing out with Credit Card Deals
Credit cards are spreading into all spheres of life by leaps and bounds. Today it's almost impossible to imagine shopping sprees, paying bills, going out, buying groceries and many other everyday activities connected with purchasing.
Penitentiary places were neither left out. In St. Lucie a new system has been introduced recently. It allows bailing out the detained with a credit card. Thus, credit card companies have extended the field of their activity onto jails.
This system proved itself to be fast and convenient for jail workers, and for inmates themselves. But people who have profited the most of this service were taxpayers, whose substantial part of taxes is deducted on jail proceedings and maintenance.
This credit cards bailing out system has been successfully operating since the past August. Over 60 detained people have been bailed out since then. Most of the released were put into jail for some minor felonies, such as suspended driver's licenses and driving under influence.
The top limit of bail that can be paid for an arrestee has not been set. It totally depends on the credit line of the card's owner. The highest price registered has made up $ 5000.
A detainee's daily maintenance in jail costs about $ 70. Where does the government take this money? Right. Out of your taxpayer's pocket. Barely someone would willingly agree to contribute money for the benefit of criminals. Such bailing out credit card system dispenses fair taxpayers from this commitment. It also simplifies and reduces paperwork connected with bailing out processing for jail staff.
However, as every double-edged sword, this system has not only those who benefit from it, but also those who incur losses. This new scheme has put bondsmen, as they put it, off their stride. They started losing their clients. This new credit card service charges just 3.2% for a loan, while bailsmen interest rate usually makes up to 10%. Moreover, if a credit card has low APR or some of rewards programs, inmates can make profit of their bail.
Anyway, unemployment is not something bondsmen should be worried about. Not all inmates who are allowed to be released on bail have stainless credit history or have an experience of being a credit card holder. What is more, it is not even a fact that some of their family members or friends have ever had a plastic. So, the only way out for them is seeking help from bailsmen.
Another this service's shortcoming is that it does not allow to hunt down inmates, who was released on bail and did not show up in court on the due date. What causes authorities' concern the most is a danger that the detained could use a stolen credit card. Wouldn't it be pathetic, if an accused for an identity theft, posting a bail, uses a fraudulent card to get out of jail?..
So, as you see this credit card bailing out system has its highs and lows. Anyway, it has just been developed and it is to be tested thoroughly before it becomes common practice. If the system shows its merits, anyway, it will be you to decide how to help some of your close people if they get into trouble.
Identity theft cases have become as common as dirt. The crisis US economy in at the moment triggers the rise of credit crime rate. Crooks do not even have to invent new more sophisticated ways to steal credit cards or identities themselves. Credit consumers struck by credit market crunch do not think much about protection against thieves now.
But now taking security measures against credit fraud is more important than ever. Say you discovered that you fell victim to identity theft. Do you have an instant action plan? Do you know what to do in order to minimize the grave consequences the fraud can bring about? Credit report freeze is the answer.
