Are You Able To Get Rewards In Your Credit Card Deals?

Credit card companies have come up with another way to get people to want to use their products: rewards programs. These have become very popular with people looking to get a new credit card deal because it offers the consumer something in return for spending money with that card. In most cases, you earn points based off of the purchases that you make. After accumulating a lot of these points, you are able to redeem them for whatever the card allows. This means you can save money on hotels, airlines, restaurants, etc. Other times you receive a gasoline card and are able to save money on gas.

It all depends on the card. Different credit card deals have different rewards programs to entice different kinds of people. For instance, some rewards cards deal solely with airlines to entice frequent flyers to get that card. These cards all seem like a worthwhile investment, but you have to look at the aspect of each one, including the fees and APR.

Generally, the APR of a rewards card is higher than a non-rewards card as the credit card companies are looking to gain a little money back. If you are already paying high interest charges and you have a high monthly balance as well, it may not be worth it to get a rewards card. They can be beneficial, but it will cost you even more money that you may not be able to pay off. In that instance, you could be stuck paying a lot more than you expected for something that is not worth it.

Do The Rewards Outweigh The Costs?

You have to take a look at your own spending habits in order to find the best credit card deals for you. Not every rewards card is created equal and it is up to you to find one that you will be able to take advantage of. It is not always easy finding the right card because you may not know everything about that card.

For instance, airline cards are very popular with people who like to travel, but you must travel a lot during the course of a year if you want to get a free ticket. You have to reach a very high point plateau to get the free ticket and it sometimes takes people as much as five years to get to that point. So, unless you are a business traveler and go on trips very often throughout the year, a strictly airline-based rewards program may not be for you.

Cash back cards are not generally known to give as much back to the consumer as point-system cards are. If you are looking to get the most out of your card, the most valuable type of rewards program is the points system. If both programs were to offer rewards at 25,000 (whether it is points or dollars spent), the points system has been proven to offer rewards at almost double what the cash-back cards offer.

You also need to take into account the fees and higher rates that go along with these reward cards. Look at your spending habits and determine if you are really going to use the card often enough to warrant paying some higher fees. Remember that these cards are not for everybody.

Take Full Advantage Of Your Rewards Card

Find a card with many rewards options. You do not want to be stuck having just one reward to go after. With a rewards program that is varied, you can save money on just about everything. It is a great way to get the most out of your rewards card.

If you do happen to reach a level where you get a reward, spend those points right away. You never know when a credit card company is going to change its criteria or reward so make sure you take advantage as soon as you get the rewards points that you need.

Get a rewards card only if you know you will be able to pay off the balance each month. You do not want to take on another card if you will not be able to pay it off, because the fees will get higher and higher if you are unable to pay off the balance. Save yourself the trouble and figure out ahead of time if you will be able to do it.

Stick to just one rewards card. With some rewards programs, it takes a lot of spending before you can take advantage of any of the rewards and having more than one card will take even longer. By using just one card all the time, you will reach the prized levels much quicker. Also, you need to be able to keep better track of your purchases so you know how many points you have and what you need to do in order to receive a reward.
