Financial Spring Cleaning: Credit Card Debt Relief
April 04, 2008
While some people make promises to themselves to start a new life with the beginning of a New Year or next Monday, others choose spring to start afresh. Spring is the time for a spring cleaning, lose some lbs people gain during winter. Spring is also great for losing excess weight in your financial matters. If you have some credit card debts, get rid of them before the summer is here.
On cold and dull winter days your credit could frown as well. Christmas debt hangover, some new warm outfits for you and your family members, vitamins to keep up your immunity, and other extra winter expenses can increase your credit card bills and your balances.
But in spring, when the nature awakens, when everything blooms and flourishes, your credit just has no right to be withered. There is no place for credit debts in spring! Set your credit free from debts and let it flourish.
It is very easy to accrue a considerable debt on your credit card. Our demands and requirements are constantly growing and you always want more than you can actually afford. That is where many credit card debts come from, contrary to a popular belief that only irresponsible credit card holders can get into debts.
Doing Away With Your Credit Card Debts
So, if you are set on eliminating your credit card debts, first what you need to do is to make up a list of your indebted credit cards. Take a look at their rates. You should better start with paying off debts on plastics with highest-rate balances. Low rate card deals with large balances can wait.
Find one more job, if you can handle it (a part-time one, of course). Try to cut down your expenses. Even if it seems to you that you do not overspend, live within your means, and buy only necessary things, on closer examination of your spendings you will find some items of expenses you can save on. Sell something you do not need. This is also a good way to get some extra money and reduce your debts.
If your debts are not so heavy, and you have a good credit history, take advantage of it. Apply for a balance transfer credit card. You, most probably, know that getting balance transfer credit cards is one of the most effective methods of paying off debts. If your credit rating is good enough to qualify for one of such offers with a long 0% APR introductory period, you will easily do away with your credit card debts during this interest rate-free time.
If You Have No Debt Problems
If your finances are ok, and you have no problems with credit card debts, it would be very useful for you to compare your credit cards' features. Look at your interest rates, fees, evaluate actual profit that you make of every of your deals. If you find offers with very high rates, or those that are unprofitable to you, you can wave a farewell to them with every reason. But by no means cancel several accounts at a time, for it will damage your credit score.
And, finally, an advice for people with spotless credit history and best credit cards that bring them maximum benefit. Just for prevention of any problems with your credit cards, check your credit report. Even if you are sure that it is ok, do the checking, consider it one of the points of your big spring cleaning. And remember, prevention is better than cure.
